The making of the apostle John – 1 John 1:1-2:2

May 10, 2026

John’s foundation for life was like Peter, the practical profession of being a fisherman, not one scholar, a writer or a preacher.  Even though John was just a lowly fisherman, he became a powerful writer and provided crucial testimony to our confession that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior.  John became an amazing author, writing our Gospel of John.  He is what I would call the gentle disciple, staying quiet and observing n the background while Peer was more outspoken.  But Jesus always took John along as a witness.  He was described as being a special friend of Jesus, close enough so that Jesus entrusted his mother to his care at the cross.  John most likely lived the longest of the apostles, and we can learn a lot from him.
