When God initiates the exile of His people from their land in Canaan, he is showing that his overarching plan goes far beyond Israel. They get swept up into one of the worldwide empires of that time and brings in his presence in their worship and his teachings in their scriptures and a witness and testimony in their being involved in the host culture to which they are brought. What seems a total disaster is an opportunity to put the focus on God’s revelation being valid for everyone everywhere and to see that God will always have an interest in every square inch of the planet earth.
