Remembering to Preserve Time for God – Exodus 20:8-11 & Matthew 12:1-14

August 4, 2024

In the first 3 commandments of the table of the law, we are to preserve God at the center of our worship and our life.  In the fourth commandment God wants to have us do 2 things, to set aside time to worship God, and then to ensure that we dedicate our worship of God and our lives to doing good.  God grounds his Sabbath in his creation work, knowing that our lives here on earth will involve work, and we will need to incorporate 2 things to remain healthy, true rest and relaxation and true worship.  In this Sabbath rest idea is not the inability to enjoy the day or do what is necessary to relieve suffering.  In fact, restoring life to optimal condition is the goal of the Sabbath.
