The writer of Hebrews sees clearly that the suffering of Jesus led to his fulfillment of the necessary calling to make perfect fallen human flesh. His journey took him into the midst of our lives, our framework on earth, and then he took that frail human body, transformed into a powerful resurrected body. Once this reality was established, he ascended into heaven to be seated in honor and glory. He became our Great High Priest, after the fashion of Melchizedek. The priesthood of Melchizedek appears in the Bible as detached from this world yet in this world, with an exclusive connection to God and to his mission. He now serves as our risen and ascended Lord.
