Paul is calling the Thessalonians to holy living; he is asking that they keep from sinning. He is asking them to be discerning and wise so as to be above reproach. After issuing this call to holiness, Paul admires their love which they have learned about directly from God. God taught to be open and generous, but Paul does not want there to be any limits set on their love. He believes they can learn and practice more and more love. In our growth in Christian love we win over others to the Gospel and we live in a hope of eternal life that is our goal and prize.
