The road to the cross for Jesus incorporates the knowledge that in great humility lies great power. He is not coming as the triumphant king here, but as the suffering servant. He is willing to be caught up in the rejoicing power of the crowd… “Hosanna” they sing, they are caught in a moment of enthusiasm and excitement, but that can be quickly dissipated. Once things get very serious, those who hold power can eliminate our Lord Jesus, they can bring his influence to an end. With his execution comes the power to control and maintain position. But not in God’s eyes, and not from a heavenly perspective.
