King Herod was trying to do away with Jesus and committed mass murder in the process. Despite the evil power that Herod displays, this episode shows how God is in control. He sends Joseph and his young family to safety in Egypt. When the danger had passed God called them back and send him to Nazareth. Three times in this episode, God directs Joseph what to do in a dream. Three times Joseph obeys. Three times in this episode Matthew mentions that the way things happened, were as predicted in Scripture.
