Peter’s words of verse 9 are very powerful. You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession that you may declare the praise of Jesus. You see, Jeus is the good shepherd who leads us into provision and safety. He is the Light giver, who light us up with the glory of God, making us wholehearted and willing to give our all to Christ in our everyday lives. I love this passage, because Peter sees a new spiritual house being built, one that is not of brick and stone, but is of people, like you and I. He is clear that we cut off our sin and nourish ourselves with the pure spiritual milk of the Holy Spirit, nourishing our faith life. Meanwhile God is busy building his new temple, one that is not in Jerusalem, not built by human hands, but built by God, with Jesus Christ as its cornerstone.
