Bittersweet Experience: From Grief to Joy – John 20:1-18

April 5, 2026

When John tells of the experience of Mary Magdalene, he is not ruling out the role of the other various women involved with going to the tomb and finding it empty. Thid is not what a tomb is for. They were doing it to help them find comfort in their grief and to be sure that proper homage was paid to the death of their dear leader. The last thing on their minds was the hope that Jesus was alive again. This has not happened in my experience. It had not happened in their experience. It was a new and novel thing, unexpected, surprising yet wonderful all at the same time.
