We carry along in our bodies the penalty of sin – Deuteronomy 32:48-52

February 22, 2026

The story of Moses encompasses many parts.  He is saved from a death penalty by being put into a basket on the river Nile.  He is adopted into the court of Pharoah and raised as a prince.  He becomes aware of his own identity as a Hebrew who are all subject to slavery at the hand of the Egyptians, whom he knows as his adoptive family.  When he tries to do something about it, his own people are bitter against him and his father, the Pharoah, starts to hunt him to take his life.  He flees into banishment in the wilderness where he becomes a nobody shepard.  There, after encountering God at the burning bush, he accepts the call to convince Pharoah to let the people of Israel go.  He leads them on the way to the promised land.  But at a certain moment, he fails.  He shows rebellion against God and neglects his duty to be a role model.  For this, God has him die before reaching the promised land.  Moses is completely a story of how we are to walk humbly with God, very aware of our own frailty.
