Paul is calling the Thessalonians to be awake and watchful, because they dwell in the light of Christ, and are not unaware or unprepared. By being closely tuned in to the Lord and listening carefully to the Holy Spirit, they will dwell in the grace of God in the present and be ready for whatever comes in the future, whenever it comes. God is at work sanctifying us in every way, so that we can become truly holy just as God is holy. The day of the Lord will come totally unexpectedly, so when he does, may we be found fully engaged in a ministry of encouragement to each other.
