Today we begin a four-part series based on the well-known parable Jesus told and is recorded in Luke 15.  It is often called ‘the prodigal son’, so we will begin with answering the question of Keller’s title.  It goes to the definition of the word Prodigal, and we find the wild son of the story was in fact prodigal, but the father in the story representing Father God is even more prodigal.  We will see the story is not only about the ‘the lost younger brother’ (possible alternate title) but also a compassionate waiting father and a wrathful older brother.  We may well learn things from this well-known story we never knew with the help of Dr. Timothy Keller’s great little book “he Prodigal God”.
